Committal services are usually held after the funeral service at the cemetery in conjunction with the burial of the casket or urn. This is where family and friends say their final goodbyes. Cemeteries usually provide a bucket of dirt or sand for families to place a handful of soil in the grave. Some family and friends choose to place flowers instead. A reception can follow the committal service at the family’s home or another venue.
