Classical Music

Classical music is a broad term that usually refers to music produced in, or rooted in the traditions of Western liturgical and secular music, encompassing a broad period from roughly the 11th century to present times. It is generally considered art music and is often divided into genres such as Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and modern classical music. Characteristics of classical music include complex forms with intricate melodies and harmonies; use of counterpoint (the simultaneous combination of two or more melodic lines); use of different musical instruments; dynamic range between loud and soft sounds; and an emphasis on technical mastery by the performer.
