Butte Creek Farms, owned by the Otterson family for over 75 years, operates a 2,832-acre ranch primarily focused on rice and row crop farming. A portion of the land is dedicated to wildlife preservation, supporting diverse habitats. The farm implements innovative techniques like post-harvest flooding to decompose rice straw and enhance wildlife habitat, doubling as a hunting club during waterfowl season. Progressive efforts include the development of fish screens to protect fish resources and securing water rights through a long-term contract with the Bureau of Reclamation. Additionally, Butte Creek Farms is working on rezoning an 88-acre property for Resort/Commercial use to tap into its long-term potential.
